Pashupatinath - Lord of Creatures

Lord shiva or shankar in his gentle aspect is Known as Pashupatinath or lord of Creatures.The Glory of Pashupatinath is mentioned in Puranas as well as in Mahabharat,Himbawat Khanda. The Word 'Pashupatinath' Described 3 Meaning , Pashu+Pati+Nath ,Where Pashu(All Beings,Creatures),Pati(Swami or Father), and Nath(Protecter or Creator). Lord pashupatinath(shiva) is father god of all. Lord shiva is supreme god and he is described as supreme in 4 Veda and 18 puran.

  

Origin of jyotirlinga  - Pashupatinath Shivalinga

Lord shiva Sri Pashupatinath is worshipped as Linga form or Shivalinga aspect.There are many shivalaya in nepal. The famous shivalinga of nepal is of pashupatinath,the guardian deity of nepal. Shivalinga in Nepal is worshipped as God of Creation. Shivalinga is  Stone roller made cylindrically in shape of phallus is inshrined in many shiva shrines of Nepal.
 
The Shiva Linga of Pashupatinath is Self Existing. It is Found on the Spot where kamdhenu the Celestial cow used to  offer her milk right at very spot.So due to curiosity of what was the reason that kamdhenu offers daily milk here,people started a digging the ground. And by the Suprise a Full of light gushed out and all people burnt to ashes.The All people Burn and died due to cosmic rediation emitted by linga.
 
It is also sometime said that Lord shiva is said to have effused a ray of light from here connecting all the higher and lower world in order to decide quarrel between brahma and vishnu as to which them is superior. Later Brahma,Vishnu,Kubera came here and worshipped the jyotirlinga(Repledent linga).It is said that lord vishnu made easy to worship pashupatinath linga by offering mukuta,built a temple and made easy to darshan for all.
 
A Unique feature of pashupatinath is that the linga had Panchamukhi Wigraha,Five Face of lord pashupatinath.The Four face in four direction and One face in top of linga.The four face name of pashupatinath is Tatpurush(Parabrahma),Aghor,Vamdev, and Sadojat. And up face name is Ishan.

Tatpurush - The Face towards East is known as 'Tatpurush' or Parambrahma. He is also known as Supreme Being.He is Indra,King of All Deities.
 
Aghor - The Face towards South is Known as Aghor. The Calm form of pashupatinath(Lord-shiva).Aghor is Symbolic Representation of Yamraj,the lord of Death.Then Deadful form is both calm and Terrifying.
 
Bamdev - The Face Towards North is known as Bamdev. Bamdev is worshipped as God of giving.
 
Sadojat- The Face Toward West is known as Sadojat.It depicts the Face of Child.(God shiva child aspect).
 
Ishan - The upper Face is Faceless and Known as Ishan.Ishan is also known as shiva organ and main face of pashupatinath. The symbol of extreme happiness.It is greatest form of Shakti or energy.The ishan is also worshipped as to attain knowledge and fulfillment of desires.

Worship At Pashupatinath Temple In Whole Year.

1 - Daily Worship  
2- Special Worship(Pooja).

 
Daily Worship
 
The Temple door of pashupatinath that of Facing West remains open at 4 Am in early morning every day.The other three doors are open at about 9 30 Am . At Half past 9 all Four Brahmin Priest attend on Pashupatinath. The Attire of Jyotirlinga of pashupatinath is taken off and then bathed with Adikalasha,water brought from holy rivers of Nepal and India.The Linga of Pashupatinath is then bathed with the holy water the river Bagmati.
 
Jal or Holy water is Pinkled by the Priest on the devotees daily for three times after Arti.It is Considered  to be very Sanctimonious to have a few drops of Jal on your Body.
 
In the afternoon,ie between 1 to 1 30 pm the jyotirlinga of pashupatinath is elegantly adorned and is attired in gorgeous dresses. At this time Shanai(musical instrument) is Played. Arti(movement of lamp in circle) is performed by offering incence.Chamhar Pankha(Fly whisk) made of Yak's tail is also sway before the linga,Mirror is shown.
 
After the adomment Balbhog is offered to Pashupatinath.The Balbhog Comprises Rice,Pulse,Khir(rice pudding),Vegetables,Acchar(Chutney) etc.,Both the Balbhog and Bhog are Prepared by the Priest of pashupatinath.
 
In the evening the temple Door of pashupatinath are opened at about 6 Pm. Arti is offered at about 7 30 Pm.
 
Panchamrit Abhishek - Panchamrit Bath(snan) is Combination of Five things such as Ghiu or ghee,Sugar,honey ,curd and Milk.) offered to pashupatinath daily by Priest.Daily Panchamrit snan on pashupatinath on devotee name is also carried out.
 
Devotee generally offer Belpatra,flower,garland,Bel Fruits to pashupatinath.Chandan tilak by rubbing sandal wood is generally given to devotee.

 
 
Special Worship
 
Special Worship to Lord Pashupatinath is performed on Special Festive Occasions.Special worship takes Place on ShivaRatri day,the night of lord shiva. It start at night 9 Pm in the night of Shivaratri.
 
Shivaratri Panchamrit Snan- Panchamrit Snan is performed till 11 pm . Rudri is Enhanced and Bal bhog is offered.Almost the whole night Pashupatinath is Worshipped by Modes and ways.On Shivaratri Day  all the doors of pashupatinath temple are opened throughout the day and night.
 
On Ekadashi Day (Elevenenth day of both dark and bright fornights) and Purnima day(Full moon day) Special worship to Lord Pashupatinath are Performed.
 
Special Worship is Performed in Following Month;Baisakh(April/May)  worship is Done by offering
 
Dhagaswan (Arlemisia Sivesiana) Flowers.For the Whole Month 121 Brahmin offer holy water to pashupatinath Shivalinga.
 
On the Shiva Baikuntha Chaturdashi Day Worship os done by Offering one thousand leaves of Tulsi(Ocimum ) which are emerged in the Holy Bagmati river.
 
On the 14 th day of the dark moon fortnight of Marga(November/December) Pashupatinath is Worshipped by Adoring it with Brocade.
 
On the days of Festival all the lamps which are fixed in an array of Pashupatinath are lightened.




 

Lord Pashupatinath (The Praisable God of Hindus)

Lord pashupatinath is Deities of Deities Great Deities (MahaDev).There is Found the Song of the Greatness in all Vaidic and Pauraheek (oldic books) Books.Especially in the sixteen chapter of Sukla Yajurveda is fulled with the Praises and Stotra(song of Praising and Saluting).One Mantras is Well Known of this Chapter where is said Praising of Sada Shiva like this. Important temples around Pashupatinath temple
1  - Gauri ghat - Gauri ghat is temple of mother gauri (parvati). Gauri ghat temple is situated 5 minutes far from pashupatinath temple. In front of gauri ghat there is big statue of Hanuman. There is also bridge in front of gauri ghat Temple which is way to Kirateshwor mahadev temple and guheshwori mata temple.
2 - Kirateshwor mahadev  - Kirateshwor temple (shivalinga ) is also described in various puran. It is described in epic mahabharat  that  Arjun Got pashupatsastra from god shiva here. Kirateshwor temple is situated in 5 minutes far from pashupatinath temple. 
3 - Guheshwori Temple -  It is important sakti peeth of mother sati described in devi bhagvad gita. There is also many shiva temple,other various devi-devtas temples,Asta matrika,ganesh,bhairav,basuki nagraj,narayan(kurma) around premises of ghuheshwori temple.
4- Mrigasthali Jungle -  In opposite of guheshwori temple ,there is Mrigasthali jungle. In this jungle god shiva move in form of deer to get peace in rememberance of mother Sati. This jungle have peace and good environment. Many dev rishi (god sages) did Austerity in this jungles. It is said that Doing bhajan of shiva parvati here attain Moksha. In way to mrigasthali jungle there is also sakchi ganesh(bahiro ganesh),gauri kunda(some say sita kunda). Now we come gorakhnath temple. 
5 - Gorakh nath temple - Gorakhnath temple is situated in mrigasthali jungle. Gorakhnath temple is situated in 2 minutes far from guheshwori temple and 5 minutes far from pashupatinath temple. In Gorakhnath temple Nath sampradaya sadhus and One maha dheesh also stay here. The chakradhi pooja of gorakhnath is done by that sadhu. In south of gorakhnath temple there is also tree of peepal.There is also place to stay for sadhus and sant. In these siddhachal Gorakhnath did darshan of Brahma lok with help of yog marg. In himbawat khand it is said that even we darshan(worship) here attain gift to other 1000 Cow danam(gift) .
6 - VishwaRup Temple - From 1 minutes far from Gorakhnath temple there is famous Vishwarup temple. This temple belong to Vishwarupa Bhagwati. Around vishwaru temple there is many temple,sati devi peeth,Til ganga(ganga til),and there is also kunda(made by shiva puri baba),sakchi ganesh,ratneshwor shivalinga etc many importance place. Even when we enter here attain moksha and get boon of doing 1000 time ashwameg yagna.
7 - Ram chandra temple - Now again we come down from jungle,vishwarup temple,mrigasthali jungle from stairs. It takes 2 minutes. Now in front of holy bagmati river there is famous temple of Ram Laxman and Ram chandra vishnu bhagwan mandir. There is also big garuda,and ganesh. Here is brahmachari  kids ashram,many baba kuti and ashram.
8 - Basaleshwori temple -  Famous basaleshwori temple is dedicated to other Parvati.  Mother parvati reside in front of God shiva(pashupatinath) here.  Basaleshwori temple is situated in Front of Holy bagmati ganga river.  There is also ghat in front of basaleshwori temple and pashupatinath temple where creation of dead body is done. There is also famous temple like Mangala gauri ,Batuk  bhairav,Big Narayana,Pancha ganesh, Yamaraj temple,Kali temple(birupaksha temple),bhasmeshwor shivalinga ,Tarkeshwor mahadev,Navagrah ,Brahma nal ,nil saraswati temple etc many famous temples. In opposite of basleshwori temple there is also many shivalaya or big shiva temples (famous as 11 shivalinga).
9 -  Nawa durga temple or Raj rajeshwori  - The temple is situated in 2 minutes far from basaleshwori temple.  Temple is nine durga (9 form of durga).



Now Temples Situated  inside pashupatinath Temple. 
 1 -  Inside pashupatinath temple camera or shoes or mobile phones is not allowed. Now we are going Inside pashupatinath temple . After entering pashupatinath temple there is 64 shivalinga temple(84 yantra),after moving these temple there is golden gate or entrance gate. There is kriti mukh bhirav temple and Sitala devi temple in straight corner right. There is also murti of ganesh and one shivalinga. We should remember surya narayana,shankar narayan while doing darshan here. First we should worship kriti mukh bhairav before doing darshan of Pashupatinath. There is no any benefits of doing worship of pashupatinath doing first worship of kriti mukh bhairav. It is even described in padma puran and himbawat khanda. Pashupatinath Speak to Kriti mukh bhairav "Hey kriti mukh bhairav,you sit down in my gate,those who worship me without doing your first will not be favourite to me".
After doing worship of kriti mukh bhirav we should worship unmatta bhairav,We should rome yagya shala,Asta matrika,dakshinkali ,Tulsi and bel trees, Nandi,after it basuki nag raj etc all god . So we should darshan shiva (pashupatinath) after completing all this darshan. We should not darshan  directly shiva. While doing darshan of pashupatinath we should worship from south gate. And follow up other gate.

Bagmati(shiva Ganga) - Lord Sri pashupatinath ji gave order to Brahma for Creation.Brahma Created whole world,buildings  but he was unknowledgable to create living beings.So after that he went to Mrigendra Shikhar(Bagh Dwar) and did meditation (Tapasya) to happy Shiva. Lord Shankar became happy with Brahma and after appearing lord shiva Chortle very loudly.Ater Chortleing it came few drop of  water from mouth.This small drop of water(jal)  resulted in River form. After Seeing this Lord shiva became very Happy and kept name as Bagmati River or (Shiva-ganga).Shiva gave Different boon to River and  Brahma and became invisible from there.
 
In Himbawat Khanda Maha puran,Lord Shiva Said "You Originated From front part of my tongue,So your name will be 'Bagmati'.So you originated from me ,so your name will be 'Shiva Ganga'.From Trata yug to end of Dwapar yug your name will will remain Shivaganga.You will be respected and worship by all God.In any Festival any one who will bath ritually you and Bath(snan) me your Jal(water),For them i will remove from Suffering World.Saying this much lord shiva became Antardhyanam(Invisible) from there.
 
After Brahma ji gave boon that "You came out from Shiva Mouth,So world will Say you Bagmati.After Crossing From Human to Kaliyuga 50000 Years old.You will Sit in this Earth 30 thousand years old.After that You will be Safely Swarganga.
 
So after saying like this to Bagmati , Maha Vishnu Knew  about Bagmati and  came to Bagmati place.Lord Vishnu Became Very happy after Seeing Bagmati and Said - Hey  Bagmati ! You will will worship as Brahma Saraswati in Middle of Treata yug and Dwapar yug.
 
So Like this Brahma,Vishnu and Mahesh gave boon to Bagmati,Wish fullfiller of pure holy world work,Religion Work Moksha welfarer etc.. different boon.So by listening Brahma mouth all god,rishi muni, came here and started doing ritual holy bath here and started getting Siddhi.Big big Sinner also attained liberation.So like this Bagmati became world famous.
 
About this Lord Shiva Speaks to Brahma and Vishnu -  "Sinner who will not get liberation from other Holy river and Piligrim is attained in Bagmati because my half power is Originated as Bagmati.
 
Like this it is Mention in 'Nepal Mahatmya' 1st Chapter - After originating from my Mouth,its name Remain Bagmati.Any where Human being who bath in Bagmati River attain me,there is no doubt on it.
 
According to Skanda Puran Himwat khand - Any one who had suffered from diseases and any one whose life is hanged on necked being even big sinner ,those who keep their  both feet in bagmati jal(water),they will attain Shiva place which is attained by different yog sadhana.
 
Mriga Rup Shiva (deer form shiv) speak to lord Brahma,vishnu.Indra:"My main place Bagmati,any one who bath there will be consider as  Narayan.Any one who is even Big sinner who bath in Bagmati attain Shivaloka after leaving their Body,there is no doubt on it.Afer Crossing Kali 50000 years,Bagmati will be Ganga.
 
Sri Krishna Bhagwan Said to God "After starting  Kaliyug,Bagmati will be worshipped and Equal as 100 Ganga.
 
Any human being Who bath in Bagmati river should not take birth in Animal,Birds etc..
 
According to Varaha Puran - Bagmati River who flows from Big mountain of Himalaya Water is Equal and Pure as Ganga.Any one who bath there will attain Baikuntha loka.Doing Achaman(Ritual Rinse) will attain Heaven and After dying attain shivlok,there is no doubt in it. 1- Inside main temple of pashupatinth, Entering with Shoes,Camera,leather belt,mobile phone,plastic bag etc is Strictly prohibited .We should read notice board or Enquiry Police while visiting any temple in Nepal.

2- We should be aware ourself with pick pocketers in Temple. We should Enquiry police immeditately if we have guess on someone.We should not wear ornament and jwellery while visiting any temple in nepal.
